While the rest of the country is mourning the deaths of nearly five dozen people who died in Las Vegas last weekend, it’s business as usual in Communist California, where another ridiculously stupid bill has been signed into law, thanks to a statehouse full of Democratic politicians and a governor who is arguably the most liberal in the country. Residents of The Golden State can now be jailed for saying one “offensive” word to members of one of the left’s special interest groups.
On Thursday, Gov. Jerry Brown signed the LGBT Senior Bill Of Rights. The law’s effect is limited to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, but mandates that those who “willfully and repeatedly” refuse “to use a transgender resident’s preferred name or pronouns” can be slapped with a $1,000 fine and up to one year in prison, according to the California Health and Safety Code.
Yes, you read that correctly. It is now illegal to call a biological man in heels “he.” And, don’t refer to grandma as “she” if “he” prefers to live as a man. Confused yet?
According to Daily Caller, the legislation also requires nursing homes and care facilities to allow residents to use the bathroom of their choice, regardless of biological sex. State Sen. Scott Wiener authored the ridiculous bill. He is not to be confused with Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former congressman and estranged husband of Huma Abedin who was just sentenced to nearly two years behind bars for sending pictures of his wiener to underage girls. Get your Weiners and Wieners straight, folks. I know, it’s difficult in this political climate.
“Everyone is entitled to their religious view,” Sen. Wiener said in a statement. “But when you enter the public space, when you are running an institution, you are in a workplace, you are in a civil setting, and you have to follow the law.”
He also thanked Brown for signing his bill, saying, “Our LGBT seniors built the modern LGBT community and led the fight for so many of the rights our community takes for granted today. It is our duty to make sure they can age with the dignity and respect they deserve. I want to thank Governor Brown for joining our coalition in supporting this bill, which will make a real difference in people’s lives,” Wiener said. “The LGBT Senior Bill of Rights is an important step in our fight to ensure all people are treated equally regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”
Not exactly, Wiener. Today’s seniors stormed the beaches of Normandy and defeated the Nazis in Germany. They built the infrastructure our country relies on today and worked hard to ensure their children had a bright future. They’d be fighting mad if you chalked their hard-fought accomplishments up to “building the modern LGBT community.” Many of them can’t stand the “modern LGBT community,” which is mostly due to forcing their acceptance, not how they choose to identify.
How about ensuring veterans “can age with the dignity and respect they deserve,” instead of making them wait months for shoddy care through the VA? Would that be too much to ask? Sadly, that which should take precedence seems to be much lower on the list of priorities than a transgender’s “right” to be called the “preferred pronoun.
